Mass media articles that HD-DVD players and discs are paperweights and coasters couldn't be further from the truth, and now that it's a win for Blu-Ray what obtacles face mass market adoption of this great format.

Trying to convince someone to get an HD disc format is like trying to show a non-audiophile the musical nuances of better speakers. They know it sounds better but the differences may be too subtle for the mass market to notice, or care enough to buy into a new format. It’s definitely a format war that might me on the radar of enthusiasts and industry insiders, but the mass market is simply ignoring them.

Sometimes it’s a manufacturing defect and, in all honesty, sometimes issues occur because of consumer over-usage that’s not related to the manufacturer.

Whether it’s inadequate power, a power surge, or simply turning the volume up at a level that your home theater cannot handle, there are many things that can contribute to equipment failure.

Sometimes it can be hard to justify the cost of a home theater to a significant other. Despite the obvious advancement in picture and sound quality offered by home theater sometimes a long hard look at the money you'll save by being entertained at home can open up your finance committee's purse strings.

Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will likely experience slow growth unless the pricing of the high-def DVD formats is adjusted and quality issues are fixed, If they wait too long they just might become outdated before they have a chance to take off.  With the holiday shopping season ahead it should be interesting to see how it plays out.
