MD Players
MD players are similar to tape decks to connect, but also offer a digital connection which brings about tremendous simplicity of recording. Every MD player has a digital input so you can record digitally allowing for a perfect recording.

The Digital Connection
The best way to record any data is through a digital connection. This removes the conversion from digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital that an analog connection puts an audio signal thru, allowing for a perfect copy to be made. Using the digital connection, the MD deck will also split the audio tracks to match the CDs so all you have to do is name the song titles.

The Loop
To record from any audio source connected to your receiver you'll need to loop your MD player through your receiver. The only drawback is that your connection will be completely analog which means you'll need to split the audio tracks up yourself after you record. For CD recording you'll want to use the direct digital output from a CD or DVD player for a perfect match. For everything else you'll use the loop from the receiver.

Connections
Simply take the left and right outputs from the MD deck and connect them to the DAT/Tape 1 or Tape 2 connection on your receiver. Take the outputs from the same DAT/Tape 1 or Tape 2 on the receiver, and connect them to the left and right inputs on the MD deck.

For the digital connection take the Optical digital output from a CD or DVD player and connect it to the digital input on the MD player.

If your MD player has a digital out connection you can use a digital connection to your receiver instead of the left and right analog outputs. You will, however, need to loop back to the MD from the receiver using the left and right analog output from the receiver.

The Connections Summary

  1. Left and right audio loop from the receiver
  2. Digital input from CD or DVD player
  3. Digital output to the receiver
